Unfortunately for David Starr (No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota), his mother, Ophelia, works day-to-day in the family business near Houston and doesn’t get to travel as much as she’d like. She wasn’t able to attend his most recent victory at Martinsville Speedway last month. “She loves it when I race,” Starr said. “If she isn’t at the track, she’s right there in front of the TV cheering me on and I call her when the race is over.” In fact, Ophelia Starr speaks for all NASCAR mothers and their love for sons and daughters. “I’m extremely proud of David,” she said. “He is every bit a champion and brings a lot of joy to me.”

What a wonderful article!  Very uplifting. 

My nephew who is only 3 yrs old has started to develop a fasination with racing and "anything fast."  My sister and I talk about the possibilities and sacrifices that will go along if he keeps going on this route.

My sister and I struck a deal.  My husband and I would buy him his first go-cart in a few years if this is still where his interest is heading.  My sister is more then willing to put in the time, money and travel that would go along with it.

Now he may surprise us all and develop a love for baseball.  If that is the case I will be at every game cheering him on!

But that is the job of a Mother (or an aunt) to support a child no matter what he chooses!

That was a Very sweet article...But Of course, Mrs. Starr is Just a really Sweet lady! And MUST be a REALLY Great Mom--Just Look at her kids! They are ALL the Sweetest peoples you'd ever meet!
