I hate being the bearer of bad news, but I found this today on SceneDaily.com: http://www.scenedaily.com/stories/2006/12/04/scene_daily33.html David Starr, who finished fourth in the Craftsman Truck Series
point standings this past season, has been let go by Red Horse Racing
because of a lack of sponsorship. He's expected to be replaced by Aaron
Fike, who is bringing a sponsor to the team for 2007.
At the season finale in Homestead, Fla., team co-owner Jeff Hammond
said the plan was to expand to two trucks, one for Starr and one for a
driver to be announced. But when the sponsorship for Starr's team
didn't come together, Starr learned he'd be without a ride. As of Thursday afternoon, Starr didn't have
anything set for 2007 but said he may have a ride secured in a NASCAR
series within days. And while disappointed, he understands the move
made by owners Tom DeLoach and Hammond.
"We had a pretty good year," Starr said. "I was really looking
forward to '07, I thought we had a shot at the championship. When I got
the news that it was a possibility that we wouldn't run because of the
sponsor situation, it was really disappointing.
"But you can't ask for better owners - they're great people and
good to work with. But when it comes down to it, you either break even
or make a little bit of money, but how many years can you take a loss?
From a business standpoint I understand.
"I'm glad they secured something, because it's such a great team
and great owners. Even though [it took somebody bringing sponsorship],
I'm glad that team's staying together whether I'm driving or not." |

Per David:
He has not been released from Red Horse Racing. In order to run in 2007 we need a sponsor. That has not been an easy task. If a sponsor is not found, chances are he will not be back in the #11 truck. |

Was just posting what I read on the NASCAR Scene site. Thanks for the update. Hopefully they can find a sponsor.

| I don't care what anybody says but this is flat out wrong. David Starr made this team this year and gave them what they had never had before a top 4 finish in the points and then the team turns it's back on the driver if they can not find a sponsor. Horse Bleep! You have drivers in this sport that use their race or gender to get a ride and sponsors yet you have David that works his butt off to make this team what it is and then this. I hope David finds a new ride with another team that wants David and not just the money with David. I for one was really snowed by a lot of people associated with this race team. David is not one to hold a grudge but I am. Lisa I'm sure you will remove this but I had to let out my frustrations this is just not right and even if Red Horse finds him a sponsor Red Horse Racing has turned it's back on David and given his truck to a driver that couldn't even hold Davids helmet on the track just because he brought money. Lets see what the 11 truck does without David behind the wheel. Look at what happenned to the 75 truck with David gone. I'm pi$$ed and every David Starr fan should be as well. |

Well, Truth is, Our Driver ...David Starr placed 4th in points...THAT is a great year, I would say!! THAT has to say alot for him for potential sponsors!!
Mike and I were wondering if maybe having so much cool artwork on the truck hurt sponsor chances? Maybe everyone thought he was fully sponsored already?? I try not to worry too much, David is highly talented, very marketable, very loyal and true;.He is honorable, and nothing but a good sport!! He will be ok...I know this article is un-nerving, But it's not all true, either... let's just hope and pray for the Best for David!! Thanks for getting us the update Lisa!
David, you are an AWESOME driver..We believe in You...Mike and I hope nothing but the best for you, and we pray that everything will work out really soon for you...Happy Holidays, and enjoy some off season time, and BE READY to RACE at DAYTONA in FEB 2007!!! We Love Ya!!

He's expected to be replaced by Aaron Fike, who is bringing a sponsor to the team for 2007
Which part is untrue???
David still has his job...if sponsorship comes along...but if no $$$, no ride?
Ok...so that makes sense...it takes big bucks to run in Nascar...
So is this Fike dude really in line for David's job, even unofficially??? Is this a real threat for David or is a reporter just making stuff up????
And just like everyone else in my *Starr family*
I am being my driver 110%!!!
WE LOVE YA DAVID!!!!!

Thanks for the Article!!!! I am upset toooo Eddie....I feel like David needs a break and he has worked his butt off to get where he is right now!! I do understand that it take money to run a team...but I felt like with David coming in 4th in the points there would be a sponsor just waiting to pick him up!!! I am not in the nascar business so I can't say much...but on my end it seems not fair to David...but that is just my opinion. I will support David and Team.....FAN, FRIEND, FAMILY THROUGH & THROUGH!!!! |

Eddie, I did not see your post when I posted, You must have posted while I was composing..
Anyways...You brought up some really good points..
I dont want to even discuss the diversity program...Not in public, anyways... lol
I try to think positive...BUT, I admit, I am NOT happy either..Why is it always THE DRIVER that suffers?? I happen to know that MY driver has this Great passion for racing, he gives 200% to every race.. he also keeps his nose clean, he is consistant, he can move up through the whole field at least 3 times in one race if He has to..AND he was 4th on points!! SO, What is the problem here?? If I do good at My job, I get to stay on..Makes no sense to me..
I Just pray and wish for the best things for David --He deserves SO much..Any Sponsor should be PROUD to sponsor DAVID STARR... |

Eddie, I could not agree with you more. Lets take a look at the statistics for this year:
1 ~ Win
4th ~ Points
6 ~ Top 5
12 ~ Top 10's
126 ~ Leds
18.1 ~ Average Start
11 ~ Average Finish
0 ~ DNF's
Pretty Awesome I would say!
Now lets look at some of the things that David didn't get:
Very Little Air-Time
Even Jeff Hammond was not plugging his Driver. (I would lay money on if he drive for Mickey he would be getting all the plugs.)
Sponsers wont's there Driver to get the air-time and to be talked about.
These things David has NO control over.

Teresa,
That is TOO FUNNY!
As for sponsors in general...
If someone as awesome as David is having a rough time getting a sponsor think about the "little" guys...you know...the ones still struggling on the track. It is a bit frustrating all the way around!!! |

| Well with school and work I hadn't been able to keep up with all the news going on, but after my finals this morning I came by to catch up on my messages to find that David had been released. What is up with that??? David is an amazing driver with more talent than half of those drivers out there and is being replaced by someone who finds the wall more than the checkered flag. Jeff Hammond you have got to be kidding me?!?! If David needs money to race than I'll give it to him. With the fan support he has we could sponsor a truck and get some attention to him that could draw sponsorship when our money runs out. David I am behind you 200%. Keep doing what you love, not for the money(red horse racing) but because it is your passion. I love ya David, I pray to find a sponsorship, and a good team who will treat you right and not turn their backs on the best out there! |
